Take your acrylic pour paintings to the next level!
Metal leaf can add beautiful structure to your paint pours, and give your paintings flash and dimension in any lighting. This online course will cover the materials, surface preparation, metal leaf application, sealing and troubleshooting, with all of Kathryn’s techniques and hacks to create crisp, defined lines in gold, copper and silver leaf on your paintings.
Three introductory projects, endless possibilities
The above three projects were made during the filming of the course, and were designed to give you a feel for the method. Kathryn will walk you through creating abstract lines, a shape with a stencil, and freehand trees in her method. You can use these techniques to make your own designs on your acrylic paintings, and increase your confidence with metal leafing.
This course is perfect for artists who:
1) Want to learn a way to make their acrylic pour paintings look distinctive
2) Have little or no experience with metal leafing
3) Have tried metal leafing, but have experienced sticking and frustration
This course focuses solely on metal leaf and is intended to build on and enhance your acrylic pour paintings. You can download the course and watch it at your own pace. A complete materials list and technique summary is included with your download, and optional materials kits are available on Kathryn's website. Everything you need to know to get started is in the course, and the course is designed to use easily accessible materials.
Troubleshooting and Tips for Stuck Leafing
If you've tried metal leafing, you know that there are many issues that can occur, such as leaf sticking to the wrong areas, or rubbing off the centre of designs. A self taught artist and former scientist, Kathryn shows you all the little household hacks and tricks she discovered by trial and error to solve these issues. Her course uses a completely different method than the instructions on the bottle.
Metal leafing has a learning curve, so Kathryn's course includes a troubleshooting section on how to solve common leafing issues. These issues can be avoided with Kathryn's unique surface preparation methods.
Professional Videography with Titles
Kathryn's first ever course was shot in her new studio by Breaktide Productions, and includes short titles accompanying most of the techniques to make the course more accessible and easy to follow.
Below are examples of more artwork Kathryn has created with this technique. See more of her art on her website and Instagram.
